02/25/2002 Entry: "Another Reason I Love My Boyfriend."

Reason no. 1,820,445 that I love Boyfriend, which will not be all that funny unless you've played some FFX:

I'm playing FFX. And there comes a point where Tidus must jump off a precipice into the water. And even though I was leading the way, when I get into the water, Wakka and Rikku are already floating there waiting for me.

BOYFRIEND: Hey! How'd they get down there so fast?
ME: ... I had them in my pants.
BOYFRIEND: ... you had Rikku in your pants, Tidus? Shame.
ME: Yes I did! And Wakka too! Never mind that he's twice my size!
BOYFRIEND: (considers Wakka the blitzball player) Hey! You had Wakka's balls in your pants!!
ME: (brief pause) AUUUUUUGH! (screams, throws things at madly laughing boyfriend)

The moral of the story is: some games do not contain the gay. FFX is one of these games.

Tell it, Moon! FFX yaoi would just be...wrong. Seymour is hardly another Kuja or Sephiroth, after all.

Oh, bah. It does /so/ contain gay.

I reference the Chocobo Knights. And Rin. Rin is enough gay for /two/ games. Well, bi. But whatever. And young Auron was pretty gay, too.

Mmm, Seymour.

... I'll be over here waving my Rin x Auron flag. Mleh.

Yeah, I have to agree with Suze here. The actual in-game party isn't so much with the gay, but Braska's group is like the revamped version of Laguna/Ward/Kiros, who were the Gay Avengers of FF8.

Okay, okay, I'll grudgingly agree with you there, but it's still not something I want to be slashing. But I'm not completely averse to slashing Dorks, Party of Three. Or Rin. Now Rin, Rin is gay.

Dorks, Party of Three slash makes me want to cry. DPo7 slash makes me want to cry.

You can slash Cid and Rin, though. I might read that.

I don't know... the general trend on prurient Japanese sites seems to be drawing Jecht and Auron, but I haven't seen a single compromising position yet, so that's fine. FFX is probably a verboten sex thing as far as art goes, although there is a lot of japanese slashfic about it.(Not really worth reading, to be honest. It's quite bad.)

I'll be happy to clobber the first person who dares to write a Luzzu and Gatta slashfic (Hiss). Mainly because it'll inevitably be inexecrable in content.

Luzzu = RED hair and GREEN eyes!
And one heckuva nice voice actor. Why Square had to pair him up with such an obvious uke-victim is quite beyond me. The horrors of bad yaoi lemon fenfic(sic) will inevitably follow. *whimpers*

Posted by curious @ 02/27/2002 11:46 AM EST

Eh, personally, I think if there was Luzzu/Gatta, it would be Gatta x Luzzu. Luzzu seems fairly bottomy, to me. Fuck the Height Rule. (I also think /Elma/ would top. Why? Well, sure, Lucil is the Commander... and she is tough and dominant in personality... but Elma is /perky/. Perky wins.)

I also think the game makes it clear that Botta has a crush on Wakka... he's probably Luzzu's brother. Hell, and Bickson's! All that red hair, green eyes, pale skin, all tall, athletic... ALL REALLY FLAMINGLY GAY! Runs in the family.

Also, Rin/Brother. Rin... is really more bi than gay, IMHO, even though he's flaming, but Brother is gay gay gay gay gay gay gay homosexual punk vodka-drinking Ramones listening Prince Albert having /gay/. You could pick him up and dump him in Picadilly and he'd get along /fine/.

Theoretically, you could do Rikku/Lulu so I could buy it. You'd have to be really, really good, and it'd have to be a few years after the game, but they're about the /only/ pairing of DPo7 I could see happening. (And it wouldn't be a relationship, and it wouldn't work out, but yes, under the right circumstances I could see them in bed together once Rikku got a bit older, maybe once or twice.)

Lady Ginnem/Lulu, in fact, I could deal with. Zuke/Lulu, NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. But Lady Ginnem... hrrrm. There was something there, although I think she reminded Lulu of her mother more than anything else -- but if you were good, you could convince me there was a sort of older-women-role-model-crush thing going on.

Hell. Botta/Jassu, people. /Botta/Jassu/.

You could have post-game Gatta/Clasko, too, and it wouldn't suck. Or Maroda/Gatta, I guess.

One of the Dweebs, Party of Three, (Isaaru and his brother, distinct from Dorks, Party of Three), pretty much has to be kinda-gay, just statistically. If we're lucky, it's Pacce, in which case it doesn't really matter, because he's what, seven? ... anyway.

If it makes you feel better, D, I'm only slashing one member of DPo3. So it's not exactly slashing DPo3, itself.

(Well, my take on it is: you're 25. You have no idea what the hell you're doing with your life. You're kinda bisexual, because you don't care about gender. You've never had sex, because you don't think about sex much... and then you're in a group travelling with two incredibly hot, /extremely straight/ older men and seeing them naked a lot and developing a deep emotional bond with them. So you spend a lot of time watching Braska naked and being surly at Jecht. And then this really hot, flaming Al Bhed saunters up to you...)

So, in conclusion, there is FFX gay I'd buy. It's just expensive gay, and requires many pricey hours of devotion and carefully thought-out rationale devoted to it.

I wasn't really putting that much thought into it. I just kind of watched DP3 doing stuff and got the gay vibes. I don't really see Rikku/Lulu. I have a hard time figuring *who* Rikku would slash best with, to be honest. Most of the women in the game seem a little reserved for her. And yeah, Gatta is definitely the top in Gatta/Luzzu. I forget who most of the other random supporting characters are, though.

Still, I never found well-thought-out slash pairings as much fun as just doing stupid shit like Auron/Kinoc or Yuna/Belgemine. I'm weird that way.

Posted by AJ @ 02/28/2002 01:03 AM EST

Gatta being the seme? I don't know... I thought the master/student thing was pretty straightforward. Especially since Gatta acts like a rabid kid for the first half of the game, but Luzzu tries to be one responsible mother. (ref: the long conversation they have when you try to go on the Mi'ihen highroad without having completed the blitzball tourney. I got mad at myself for actually missing out Luzzu voice acting, so I went back and did it again. But it shows that Luzzu really is Gatta's surrogate father.)

And post-game Gatta would pretty much be bonking a Luzzu substitute if anything. It just isn't likely that he'd get deeply emotional/respectful over anyone else.

The thing is that Dpo7 was pretty much a tacit straight thing. God knows why they paired Tidus up with Yuna though, he and Rikku are so perfect for each other - same hair, same attitude, same winning quotes (Told 'ja) and both of them shout "See ya" when they kill an enemy. The straight pairings were a whole lot more subtly done and well founded than Squall suddenly pining over Rinoa nonsense. So perhaps Squaresoft really was trying to avoid all the potential embarrassment caused by the yaoigirls. Woohoo.

I mean Gatta tops /sexually/, which is a whole different dynamic than in the broader relationship. Same with Lucil and Elma: Lucil is the Captain of the Chocobo Knights, she's the leader, she's the one in charge... but when it comes sex, it's Elma tackling her in the haystacks when they've made Clasko go check up on the Chocobos.

I'll agree in the broader relationship, though, they're both bottoms.

Er... Rikku/Tidus? *twitch* *shudder* Noooooo. No. I just can't see it: Rikku is like Tidus little sister, if anything. They're friends, they're bouncy at each other, but they're /too/ similar to have a relationship. Rikku's also too busy having gigantic crushes on Auron and Lulu.

I think Tidus falls for Yuna because she's somehow... very alien in a way that's both exotic and extremely attractive. Rikku would have fit in in Zanarkand -- Yuna wouldn't. I think, in a way, Yuna /is/ Spira, for Tidus, if that makes sense... she's an embodiement of everything he loves about Spira and finds worth saving. (One thing I love about the game: you can /see him/ falling in love with SPIRA, in the one binoculars scene. No dialogue, you can see it becoming a /place/ for him, and not a problem...)

Rikku slashes well with people who are cool and reserved. Not that the game doesn't /bat you over the head/ with Aurikku. I mean, what the hell is RIKKU doing in the cut scene when you find Auron's ultimate weapon? Really? Someone explain /that/ one to me?

Posted by Suze @ 02/28/2002 02:00 AM EST

Oh, I can totally see Rikku getting the hots for Auron, but I thought that was more because he exudes cool badass waves. I'd actually like to see some Rikku-crushing-on-Auron Aurikku, provided it takes the obvious countermeasure of having Auron totally not interested and possibly a little creeped out.

just a random pop in, for ppl who haven't seen this already ...
there IS some auron/rikku fanart out there.

Hope you like.

I'd imagine there's more than some. It appears to be the most popular FFX pairing by leaps and bounds.
